November 19, 2017 Neighbors of the NSMGLH community had a great time with the Veterans on Nov. 11 at 9 am for breakfast. The speaker, Major Curry, kept everyone informed on current events but challenged everyone to "stay woke!" Major Curry also encouraged everyone to keep their minds and heart on the Lord and to do their part in the Kingdom of God. Special thanks to Mrs. Florence Manuel, Mrs. Alesia McClellan, Mrs. Nell Carter, and Mrs. Betty Coleman for the delicious breakfast. There was an added feature from Mr. Reeves called "SOS." Thanks to the Fire Station for making things possible. More than anything, special thanks to all our Veterans that made it possible for us to have our freedom in The United States of America! March 20, 2017 A citizen from the community has been in an car accident with her children-Nikki (Latrice Dudley). She was a volunteer firewoman in the community. She and the children need our prayers and concerns. Please check on them.

June 23, 2016 The NSMGLH Civic League would like to invite our youth to participate in the "My Eyes" Calendar Contest! This is a great opportunity for youth to showcase their creative skills. We are looking to decorate our community calendars with a variety of artistic pieces such as drawings, paintings, poetry, inspirational writings, etc. You must be between the ages of 8-18 years old to participate. There will be a meeting at the Fire Station to discuss more details of the contest. The date for the meeting will be announced in the Announcements section of the website soon!

June 23, 2016 The NSMGLH Civic League would like to announce that Community Storm Shelter #1 has been completed. The Storm Shelter is located behind the Fire Station. Also, Storm Shelter #2 is currently being built. An official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Storm Shelter #1 will be held soon. Details for the event will be posted on the Announcements page in the near future.
April 15, 2016 Volunteers are needed for our annual Community Clean-Up Day! The event will be held on April 23, 2016 from 9am to 12 noon. Bags, gloves, and safety t-shirts will be provided. Please wear long pants and avoid wearing open-toe shoes. April 15, 2016 Congratulations to our 2016 Black History Essay Contest Winners! Participants were asked to write an essay based on the following topic: "What Does Black History Have to Do With It?" The winners were announced during the NSMGLH Civic League Meeting on March 21, 2016. Styliah Nelly was the winner for the 13-17 year old division. She received a gift card from an anonymous donor for her essay entitled "Wanted!!!! Dead or Alive" regarding Assata Shakur. Jacob Williams was the winner for the 9-12 year old division. He also received a gift card for an essay he wrote about his Pastor Michael McClure, Jr.
All student essays were great! Certificates of Appreciation were given to the following participants: Ulanni Newman (Making of a Fugitive-Angela Davis), Jamila Williams (Martin Luther King, Jr.), and Lattice Newman (Essay about her grandmother being the first Black woman to win Stand-up National Arm Wrestling. Her grandmother was also in attendance at the Civic League Meeting). A special thanks to the parents of the student participants, including Ms. Latrice Dudley and Ms. Leslie Williams.

October 14, 2015 Congratulations to Jamila Williams!!! Jamila is the winner of the 2015 Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest. Her poster is entitled "Hear the Beep Where You Sleep." Jamila will receive the "Edward Coleman Fire Prevention Award" at the upcoming NSMGLH Civic League Meeting. August 3, 2015 Community Cleanup Day was a success! The event was held on August 8, 2015 from 11am-3pm at the community park. Several members of the community enjoyed music, food, fun, and prizes. Children enjoyed fun activities such as basketball and an inflatable bounce house. In addition, children were given free book bags in preparation for the new school year. Thanks to everyone who organized, setup/cleaned up, and attended the event. Also, a special thanks to those who provided donations. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next community event!
